Over half of Calgarians have had someone close to them affected by dementia, with Alberta projected to see a 286% increase in dementia cases by 2050.

The Alzheimer Society of Calgary (ASC) is devoted to helping those impacted through education, compassion, and empowerment. From the moment we first met with the organization, we immediately recognized the importance of their work — and saw the impact in our own communities. Beginning with custom website development, our role has evolved into that of a long term technology partner, working with the organization to guide planning and launch campaigns.

Staying Current in an Ever-Changing Landscape

Our relationship with ASC began with a simple website for the organization. This partnership has developed as their needs have evolved — guiding the organization through several redesigns to keep pace with this ever-changing community. Recently we guided ASC through a complete design overhaul that included reevaluating content, building a new backend, and redesigning the user experience with a modern interface. This refresh enhanced both appearance and functionality, providing visitors with an intuitive experience while giving ASC greater flexibility in managing their digital presence.

A Dizzying Maze of Digital Tools, Simplified

Through conversations with staff, we uncovered a tangled network of disconnected digital tools, involving disparate systems for events, fundraising, and donor management. By mapping their workflows, we identified numerous improvement opportunities. Custom API integrations reduced event management efforts dramatically, freeing staff to focus on mission-critical tasks. These integrations eliminated redundant data entry and automated manual processes, allowing ASC to accomplish more with limited resources — and redirect energy toward supporting those affected by dementia.

The team is intuitive, innovative and responsive to our needs, and provides compelling recommendations that yield impressive results.

StillMe: Reframing the Conversation Around Dementia

In 2023, ASC conceived a strategic awareness campaign to shift public attitudes about dementia. We managed the online portion of this "StillMe" campaign, which challenges misconceptions through fun, tongue-in-cheek materials. We created a website complementing the marketing campaign while serving as an information hub. The platform needed to appeal to younger generations while remaining accessible to all ages. The resulting campaign presents serious information in an approachable format, serving as both an educational resource and a powerful tool for changing perceptions.

Working Together to Build Resiliency to Change

As technology integration improved, ASC recognized the value of keeping systems current. Adopting continuous development helped them become more dynamic and responsive to changes. Over time, our role evolved to trusted technology advisor, providing stewardship and helping the organization make informed decisions about digital infrastructure. This partnership ensures technology investments align with ASC's mission. By embracing ongoing improvement rather than periodic overhauls, ASC can implement incremental changes while maintaining stability, maximizing their technology investments, and ensuring that they focus on their important mission.
